Asheville and Lebanon

Biltmore Estate was awesome! (http://www.biltmore.com/)

Dogs are welcome...except in the big house...so I breezed through it and picked up my compadre, Max, and went hiking...and hiking...and dang it, where did that main trail go?????

"oooo...is that water?" "Why, yes, yes, it is!"

Luckily they sell more than wine at their vineyard and I cooled off with a margarita while Max dried off after his romp in the stream (hey, who thought I needed a towel to go visit a fancy estate????)...he's gotta be part water hound of some sort.

On our way out of the estate, Max saw baby geese...and baby cows...all with noisy moms, saying "move along"...

At the end of the day, somebody needed a bath and somebody else needed a shower after giving the other somebody a bath! After getting a bath and tearing around the room to avoid getting dried off with the evil towel, Max indicated he'd had a full day.

The next day we got up and headed to Lebanon, TN...Max was NOT into the windy roads that led out of NC and into TN...so we pulled over in the first rest stop in TN...Thanks to TN State Trooper Olbert for holding onto Max while I used the state facilities...

Max and I will stay the night in Lebanon before heading out tomorrow...I had planned to go swimming here, but made the tactical error of coming before Memorial Day weekend! So, they DO technically have a pool, but it's empty :(

So, I guess we'll leave early tomorrow morning...cuz it's also rainy here....and the big thing to do here is shop their outlet mall -- a big no-no for an unemployed person! Even though I turned in a course proposal today and dropped a resume two other places for potential jobs...the job hunt never ends!

  1. I'm feeling equal parts envy that you are on a road trip and I'm not and celebration for you. The Biltmore, cool! Are you going through San Antonio as well or no one to see there?

  2. I sooo wish this unemployed person could be with you two trekers & swimmers!
What do you mean "course proposal?" Do you mean as in teaching? You'd be an awesome prof!!! I've learned so much from you over the years.

  3. Max looks pooped in his pic on the bed LOL. The weary traveler. Color me envious here, too, for the trek and the adventure of the road. Keep safe and happy. B.

  4. The proposal was for a WEBinar via the Carole Kneeland Project (www.carolekneelandproject.org) to help small and medium sized TV markets better cover DC stories by localizing the various annual reports that come out of there...I proposed three, one-hour webinars and then offered to give two hours of one-on-one advice for them as they do their own story based on the info I gave them.

I also offered to do a shorter version/overview as a one-hour seminar in a full-day conference they are considering putting together.

Well, I wish one of you guys was with us! Though I have no idea where we would put you -- I suppose we could pill up higher and you could be our eyes on that side of the car.

As fierce as Max is, I get a little jumpy in these smaller venues...like in Lebanon...it just feels deserted here except for some truckers and a couple of bikers...May is apparently dedicated to veterans traveling across the country, especially on Harley's ... lots of special prices and tourist booths set up for them...I just don't think of bikers as stopping for discount coupons and maps.
